Ehd-e-Wafa Finale Takes You on an Emotional Roller Coaster [Review]

The military-produced drama serial comes to an end.

Ehd-e-Wafa

Despite the screening of the last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa in theaters being canceled due to the Corona outbreak, all was well in the end. The Ehd-e-Wafa finale was still screened on television on Sunday.

Oh boy, was that bumper episode a bumpy ride. The drama tied up all loose ends and took us on an emotional roller coaster. The biggest dip in this tale was probably the doubt surrounding whether Saad would live (this time).

There were two separate occasions when we felt Captain Saad wouldn’t make it. What a tear-jerker that was. In the end, dead or alive, Saad did make the audience cry again.

Criticism

For those who were bashing Ehd-e-Wafa for giving politicians a bad rap, denial is the first step to not solving a problem.

Raising an issue hat is otherwise distasteful, is the smart way to go about it. This gets a debate going. It starts a debate that we needed to have.

Ehd-e-Wafa finale

Still, the last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa tied that complaint pretty well with Shahzain’s conversation with Shariq and Shehryar. The conversation highlighted the importance of politicians and the role they play.

The Ehd-e-Wafa finale provided a balanced image of the political machinery, military, bureaucracy, and the public in their respective roles. In that respect, it succeeds by miles.

Moral Lesson

The need to take responsibility for ourselves, that was the central moral lesson in this episode.

If responsible individuals in positions of authority do their job well, only then can we make a collective difference.

Rather than critiquing others in their respective roles, we need to start shouldering responsibility ourselves.

Humanizing professions in the last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa

The last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa did not take away the human aspect of any character despite their responsibilities. Like how even the most dedicated soldiers like Captain Saad are no good at goodbyes.

The same goes for Shariq, as he leaves work in the middle of a live shot and rushes to see his friend. Even Shahzain was seen in tears, asserting that strong men also cry, because they’re human.

Meanwhile, Shehryar being the responsible one, pulled everyone together.

Public Opinion

Like most Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) productions, this serial placed so much importance on the characters. This made for a better story rather than being an extravagant production.

As we all watched the Ehd-e-Wafa finale last night, it felt like a hard goodbye.
