Did you know only 10% of Pakistanis are native Urdu speakers? Even then, it is often observed that we end up making fun of other people’s accents even when they’re fluent in Urdu or English. Recently, Kaaf Kangana‘s Eshal Fayyaz got a taste of the same. She got bullied on a morning show, as part of Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s joke over the Punjabi-Urdu debate.
While promoting their movie on the Nida Yasir show, the cast as well as the creator of Kaaf Kangana cornered Eshal Fayyaz on her ‘Punjabi accent‘. When Khalil-ur-Rehman brought up that he jokes a lot on set, Eshal responded with;
“He tells really funny jokes, and they’re in Punjab …”

That’s when Nida Yasir brought up if Eshal Fayyaz could understand Punjabi. Before she could respond with ‘I’m also Punjabi’, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar mused;
“Kyun Amricka se ayi kya? Urdu iski mein thek kra kra kay mar gya (Why, did she move here from America or what? I nearly died trying to fix her Urdu.)”
On the other hand, the director also praised the debut actress, saying that no new actress in the industry worked as hard as Eshal Fayyaz did. The writer-cum-director then talked about how people are quick to criticize.
“If she doesn’t have skill, then neither does Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar”

That’s when actor Sami Khan opined that these people who are saying negative things about the film, aren’t film-makers. They can’t have opinions on the film according to him.
The thing is – Kaaf Kangana faced a backlash because of that trailer. Audiences just weren’t impressed, and that is clearly seen on social media trends. People just felt that the Kashmir sound bytes were tacky.
“Want to ask these people if they’ve studied film, written scripts, directed a project, produced a film, … I respect anyone’s opinion, .. but provide opinion after watching the film,”
Uff Eyes and ears bleeding.
Didn't like Veer-Zara but This stinking Kachra version of Veer-Zara wrapped in Kashmiri shawl is Shamefully Unbearable🤮#KaafKangana https://t.co/zpcvgyhriw— Nazish Alavi (@naazzish) October 12, 2019
When people said we need more movies portraying our side of the Kashmir issue, I'm sure nobody meant a 'very low-budget- lovestory-using Kashmir hasb-e-zarurat to sell tickets' type of movie. Utterly ridiculous #KaafKangana

“How can they provide constructive criticism? What do they even know?”
Prior to the trailer release, Kaaf Kangana was one of the most anticipated films of 2019. Fans expected great things from the Landa Bazaar famed writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.
