Fact Check: Is ‘The Legend Of Maula Jatt’ Going to Premiere in India this Month?

Indian media reported that it will hit theaters on December 23.

Bilal Lashari and Ammara Hikmat’s magnum opus, The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi, has engraved its name in Pakistani cinema’s history and is on an incredible box office run, leaving international blockbusters behind in its dust with an Rs. 2 million benchmark at the box office.

Notwithstanding the cultural exchange ban between India and Pakistan since 2019, interestingly, several Indian outlets have been speculating that this blockbuster will hit even Indian theatres on 23 December.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is expected to release in cinema halls in India on December 23. Zee Studios has backed the film and are working towards making sure it happens. A clearer picture will emerge in the next week as to whether the film will make it in cinemas, and whether it will release on December 23 or some other date.

Ammara Hikmat

According to the Express Tribune, the film’s producer, Ammara Hikmat, expressed hope for the film to reach Indian audiences but she dismissed reports of any deals in place for The Legend of Maula Jatt‘s release in India.

She stated,

We hope that Indian fans get to watch this movie in cinemas as well, But right now, there is no such deal in place.

Written by Bilal Lashari, with dialogues by Nasir Adeeb, The Legend of Maula Jatt features a star-studded cast, including Fawad Khan as the titular character, Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Natt, Mahira Khan as Mukkho Jatti, and Humaima Malick as Daaro Nattni. The supporting cast includes Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Shafqat Cheema, and Nayyer Ejaz.

The Punjabi action flick grossed Rs. 800 million nationwide and minted more than Rs. 1.2 billion at the global box office.
