The cast of Load Wedding, especially Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat, are happy that the government is doing something to curb the practice of dowry.

Both the stars celebrated the legislative efforts to curb dowry, a socio-cultural issue highlighted in their film.

Nabeel Qureshi’s Load Wedding highlighted the inconvenient and problematic custom of dowry in Pakistan.

Now the Punjab Assembly is making legislative efforts to address the social evil, by way of an anti-dowry resolution.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Uzma Zahid Bukhari demanded that the practice ‘be shunned in society by law‘.

A Good Move

The Punjab Assembly resolution to ban dowry created a wave of applause on social media. Among the crowd was the cast of the hit film Load Wedding.

Lead actress Mehwish Hayat was moved by the efforts made to outlaw dowry. The actress pointed out that ‘we can change anything if we strive and try together’.

Fahad Mustafa too, had something to say about it. With a direct reference to the film, Fahad tweeted ‘Finally, there will no more #loadweddings‘.

The Anti-Dowry Resolution

The resolution against dowry categorically states that the custom is un-Islamic. It goes a step further in proposing that strict action be taken against those who ask for it.

Nabeel Qureshi’s film Load Wedding highlights this issue in a comedic manner. The movie follows the story of a man burdened by the load of dowry for his sister’s marriage.

The story, although a comedy in nature, highlights the very real struggle that Pakistani families face in order to wed their daughters. The occasion for celebration, can leave many families debt-ridden for life.
