The case against Ukhano

Back in July 2019, many women were coming out with accusations of sexual harassment against travel vlogger Ukhano. Later in November 2019, Ukhano decided to file charges against one lady.

He filed charges of false information under Section 420 of the Pakistan penal code, which entails cheating and dishonesty, including property distribution as well as the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act; section 20 (offenses against the natural dignity of a person) and 24 (cyberstalking).

Now in his charge against her, since she stated that she had not posted the defamatory material in question, the FIA has concluded that “Ukano was falsely blamed on social media (in this case).”

What About the Others

It all started with a Facebook post leveling accusations against Ukhano. The post was later deleted but dozens of more women came forth with stories of Ukhano misbehaving with them.

At the time, even fellow YouTubers like Irfan Junejo asserted the need to hear out the victims. There were scores of screenshots of conversations between Ukhano and the victims posted on Instagram and Snapchat.

In the screenshots, Umer can be seen making lewd comments or asking women for intimate pictures.

What about all of those people? According to reports, the travel vlogger submitted original conversations to the authorities and they concluded that the screenshots shared on social media were fabricated.

Umer told them they he would not be making the evidence public because;

“Making evidence public in sensitive issues like these exposes one to public bullying and degradation. Ive[sic] been a target of such bullying for the past 8 months and I would never wish the same for anyone else.

We should always pursue legal forms for such cases. It might take time but it’s the right way. [U]sing social media as court rooms to pass swift verdicts or cancel someone can ruin lives”.
