Years after the rumors surrounding her divorce, singer Hadiqa Kiani is finally sharing the details of how her marriage fell apart.
In her appearance on Nida Yasir’s ‘Good Morning Pakistan‘, the Udaari singer talked about a variety of topics from her professional life to her personal life. Hadiqa Kiani also provided insight into how her marriage with Syed Fareed Sarwary fell apart.
Surprisingly, and contrary to public belief, the marriage was entirely arranged. Turns out the UK-based Afghan businessman was old school.
“It was a completely arranged marriage, … He was a 3D animator and used to make my videos in the 90s.”
Syed Fareed Sarwary fell for the Raqeeb Se actress and with the help of mutual friends, he sent a marriage proposal.
“He fell in love with me, … One of our mutual friends helped him in sending a marriage proposal to my house. My family accepted the proposal since they were already looking for a proposal for me.”
As for why their marriage fell apart when the businessman was in love with the songstress, it was due to his mother. Hadiqa Kiani shared how the mother-in-law had a problem with her career in music.
“The major obstacle in my marriage was his mother, … She had a problem with my music. We lived together for five and a half years and after that, we parted ways.”
That’s not all that was wrong with their marriage. The basis of the relationship was somehow guilt, as the UK-based businessman even attempted suicide to woe the vocalist.
“The biggest mistake I made was that when I was engaged to him I was not happy and satisfied with it, but during this time period he attempted suicide, which changed my mind about it, … My expectation was that someone who was trying to kill himself because he was afraid of losing me would take care of me for the rest of his life, but this was not the case. From the day we married until the day we separated, I was only pleasing him.”
She even shared how for a while she wanted him to come back and apologize. However, Syed Fareed Sarwary made no such effort.
“The time following our separation was a very difficult time for me and I was waiting for him to come back so that I could forgive him, but unfortunately nothing settled down.”
