Has Ehd-e-Wafa Forgotten Sheheryar and Shariq?

That’s half the leads in the story

In case you haven’t noticed, Ahmed Ali Akbar as Sheharyar, and Wahaj Ali as Shariq haven’t been getting the screen time we’re used to them having in Ehd-e-Wafa. So what’s happening?

While the drama serial started off with four friends in Murree’s Lawrence College, as the story progressed, certain characters have faded out.

Once the four friends Saad (Ahad Raza Mir), Shahzain (Osman Khalid Butt), Sheharyar, and Shariq went their separate ways, we’ve barely seen Ahmed and Wahaj.

Ehd-e-Wafa and the plot so far

Seven episodes in, we know all about Saad’s family, love interest, career path and a detailed account of his professional struggle.

We also get a few emotional brownie points with the young cadet from Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan) Gulzar Hussain (Adnan Samad Khan), that’s about all the diversity we get.

Saad’s love story with Dua (Alizeh Shah) ties in Shahzain and his love story (or arranged marriage) with Rani (Zara Noor Abbas).

We get a detailed account of Shahzain nad his feudal background. As well as the bad blood between Saad and Shahzain, and Shahzain’s attempts to marry Dua. Though we suspect an arranged marriage to Rani will be the way forward for him.

Ehd-e-Wafa certainly has not done justice to Ahmed Ali Akbar’s Sheharyar, and Wahaj Ali’s Shariq. We just briefly saw that Shariq’s sister working as a nurse supports the family, even paying for Shariq’s education.

Without any development, we jump straight to Shariq being employed in a newspaper. Sheharyar’s doesn’t even get that much screen time.

Similarly, rather than develop the story of the underprivileged yet intelligent Sheheryar, all he got was one scene. We see him substituting for his father in a marching band while his father is ill.

Ehd-e-Wafa gained traction from being a relatable story of a mixed bunch. Yet now the most relatable of two boys from the four leads have been pushed back. The struggle of being skilled without opportunity.

Is Ehd-e-Wafa the drama steered itself into glamorizing unrelatable storylines? Or the best is yet to come?

We believe that the writers ought to refocus their energies on the oft-neglected character development.
