Here’s What Ali Rehman Khan Thinks About Fairness Creams [Video]

You’ll be surprised.

In recent days, the whole world has united against racism and colorism. The Black Lives Matter movement is reshaping the mindset that your skin color does not make you any less of a human.

This movement in the west has also started up a debate among people in our corner of the world on whether we should be speaking for them, or first correct our own misconceptions.

The idea that ‘your complexion defines you’ gave birth to fairness creams in South Asia ages ago. To this day, we see how people and their favorite personalities are promoting these skin-damaging, cancer-causing creams.

Having absolutely spotless, white complexion is a bluff and they have been making money out of people’s helpless desires to become fair. For these cosmetic companies, pushing the narrative that fairness equals to true beauty, means more money in the bank.

In the recent episode of Notti Nani and Chang, actor Ali Rehman Khan highlighted this issue in a light-hearted way.

He talked about the beauty standards of our society and how having gora rung has nothing to do with leading a successful life.

“Fair complexion isn’t necessary. How do we make our youth realize this fact. You must know how to work, fairness creams do nothing.”

In the past few days, so many people came out with their stories of being discriminated just because they have a darker skin tone.

While some actors like Zara Noor Abbas still promote fairness creams because they don’t directly kill someone, others like Yasir Hussain suggested we should put a ban on the production of such products.

  1. To be honest this fair color = beauty thing is so deeply ingrained in our society that it might take decades to vanish. Just look at the media what they are displaying? How many of these actors and actresses have dim colors? At least in the West, you can see a lot of TV, music and Film celebrities from African descent and you will hardly find any such model in our country.
