It looks that Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Hamza Shafqaat is on vacation from Twitter until his account is sorted out. DC Islamabad was known for his jovial Twitter presence but that’s been put to a halt for now.
Its not Twitter who is to be blamed here. According to new orders from the Interior Ministry of Pakistan, social media use should be curbed.
The Interior Ministry has directed officers with a large Twitter presence and following to deactivate their Twitter accounts. They’ve also been prohibited from giving statements on other forums.
“DC Islamabad takes down his twitter account as Interior Ministry directs its officers to stop interacting with media. Officers were also advised not to give any official view/comment on any other forum.”

Of course, this didn’t stop the conspiracy theorists.

The odd thing here is that while DC Islamabad has been prohibited from interacting with people on Twitter, district commissioners from other cities continue to do so.
Why was DC Islamabad singled out? That’s what Hamza Shafqat’s fan-base is demanding to know. This could possibly be due to the fact that DC Islamabad directly answers to the Interior Ministry while other district DCs do not.

The officer had a huge Twitter presence not just because of his Twitter shenanigans but due to his approval rate as an officer in Islamabad.
Making comments on government policies is one thing and being available literally 24/7 to respond to any issues of common citizens a another. The blanket ban doesn’t make any sense #DCIslamabad #TwitterMissesDCisb
