Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon has been dropped by her agency, United Talented Agency (UTA), for her participation in a pro-Palestine rally.
The acclaimed Hollywood actress delivered a powerful and emotionally charged speech at the Free Palestine March in New York, emphasizing solidarity with the Palestinian people.
During her address, Sarandon passionately stated,
You don’t have to be Palestinian to stand with the Palestinian people.
She shed light on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. The veteran actress also called out Israel for its heinous war crimes against Palestinians. However, her statements have been unjustly labeled as “anti-Semitic.”
Susan Sarandon was also facing additional criticism for sharing a pro-Palestinian post from Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters on Twitter. Waters, a vocal supporter of Palestine, has himself been criticized for alleged ‘anti-Semitic remarks.’
This news follows a recent trend where public figures face are being cancelled or silenced by Hollywood for expressing pro-Palestinian sentiments. Mexican actress Melissa Barrera was recently removed from the Scream franchise due to her support for Palestine.
Models Bella and Gigi Hadid have also faced death threats and censorship by the media for their outspoken advocacy for the Palestinian cause.
It’s crucial to note that the ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in a death toll exceeding 14,000 Palestinian, including women and children. Protests are happening worldwide, demanding an end to the violence in Gaza.
