After audiences calling out Aswad’s abusive behavior for ages now, Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay finally addresses emotional and psychological abuse.

It seems a bit too late but better late than never. As Mehreen (Mahira Khan) finally has a mental breakdown with hallucinations of her father (Omair Rana), Aswad (Usman Mukhtar) gets a reality check.

Meanwhile, the doctor at the hospital calls out the ‘abusive husband of the year’ as we see her call out psychological and emotional abuse. While Aswad is well aware it’s his actions that landed Mehreen in this state he is still holding back from accepting his fault.

Someone even called out how we might be normalizing emotional abuse by not clearly addressing it in drama serials.

 

Given what an outspoken woman Mehreen was initially presented as, audiences expected better from her.

 

On the other hand, the drama serial also addresses the trend of forced marriages under the guise of ‘cousin marriages’ in our society. When the doctor asks if their’s is a ‘love or arranged’ marriage to better gauge the dynamics of their relationship. Aswad responds with ‘cousin marriage. That really hit Netizens hard.
