Besides his acting skills, veteran Pakistani actor Hamza Ali Abbasi is also known for his headline-grabbing remarks, both on and off the screen.
Hamza has impressed us all with his performances in both dramas and films but now the “Waar” actor is seen as a judge in reality show Pakistan Star on Bol Entertainment.
During last week’s episode of the show, Hamza spoke his heart out against the prevailing culture of item numbers in Pakistani films. He aired his thoughts after a 16 year old contestant performed Na Maloom Afraad‘s Billi in his show, an item song itself.
Hamza apologized on behalf of the film Industry for failing to provide young people some suitable content to perform on. He called item numbers as ‘trash and filth.’
Furthermore, the Pyaare Afzal actor appealed to directors and producers to stop the trend of item numbers in movies.
“Even India is trying to get rid of it as it has destroyed their society” he added.
Here’s the show as it happened:
Hamza Ali Abbasi Is Against Dance Numbers
Hamza has always been critical of the concept of item numbers in Pakistani films. He believes item numbers have no role in the success of a movie.
During an interview with BBC Asian Network last year he said,
“Tell me one single item number that has played a huge role in the success of a Pakistani film? None!”
Say no to item numbers and do films that positively impact society… that's what @iamhamzaabbasi tells @iharoonrashid. Plus why his film #ParwaazHaiJunoon isn't propoganda and how it's going to change the international perception of Pakistan. pic.twitter.com/KdbDMZS8b6
