With everyone eyeing the future as 2021 rings in, Prime Minister Imran Khan shared a poppin’ throwback with old pals Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
The photograph is from an old Pepsi commercial shot in 1989. This was back when all three men played for the national cricket team. Pepsi is still known to hire sports-stars for endorsing their fizzy drink.
The commercial endorsed their fizzy drink as;
“The choice of a new generation”

The commercial shows the famed cricketers leading a generation of young children in a winning game of cricket. Given their status as sports-stars they were role models back in the day. Now the famed Pakistani Captain is leading the generation in real life, as county’s Prime Minister.
All three teammates are seen donning white kits. In the ad, Imran Khan is seen pegged against the two fiery pacers from the ’90s era — Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. Up against the deadly duo Pakistan’s famed ‘Captan’ dodged two deliveries from both bowlers but then delivers a six on Waqar’s ball.

PM Imran Khan is also credited with mentoring Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis into international cricket superstars. Wasim Akram and Imran Khan are still close friends. Both legendary cricketers reside in Pakistan. Both men were also active philanthropists until Imran Khan became the elected prime minister in 2018.
Waqar Younis also tries to touch base with his friend despite being based in Australia. He even promoted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s ‘Ehsaas program’. He shared a message in support of Pakistani government while fundraising for the Ehsaas poverty alleviation program.
