India ripping off ideas from other industries is nothing new. However, recently an Indian drama serial copied a scene from Humsafar and we think they took it too far.

Indian audiences have been raving about Pakistani dramas particularly works like Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Khuda Aur Mohabbat, etc for a while now. So why did some Indian television creators think it’s a good idea to take a contemporary favorite and copy a scene from it?

Drama serial Badde Achey Lagtey Hen 2 blatantly copied an iconic scene from the Pakistani blockbuster drama Humsafar. The scene in question is when Fawad Khan untied Mahira Khan’s hair in the most romantic way.

Fans loved that tender moment between the two lead characters as Asher (Fawad Khan) is emotionally vulnerable with Khirad (Mahira Khan) for once. The scene is the epitome of rated G romance.

This isn’t the first time an Indian creator blatantly ripped off Pakistani artists. Just recently Indian creator Sunny Nahal landed in hot waters for copying Nabeel Qureshi’s music video for Shani Arshad’s ‘Ki Jana’ frame by frame.

Sunny Nahal’s music video for Brham Darya’s ‘Mood Happy’ looks exactly like Nabeel Qureshi’s globally acclaimed music video for Shani Arshad’s ‘Ki Jana’.

The sheer bravado with which Indian creators just rip off another artist’s ideas is appalling. Be it a song, a melody, a situation, or a story plot, they just ‘recreate’ existing works that have a distinct following.

Did you know the famed 80s Bollywood song ‘Nasha Ye Pyar Ka‘ is a copy of  Toto Cutugno V’s L’italiano. The song literally has the same melody.

The song was featured in the soundtrack for the movie Mann starring Aamir Khan and Manesha Koirala.

Can you wrap your head around that? Can you name another Bollywood ‘original’ that is also a knock-off of another artist’s work? Let us know in the comments below.
