There he goes again. Imran Khan went ahead and said things, we don’t really think he knows all too well. Recently Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he kickstarted Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (NFAK)’s global career and the Internet can’t help but cringe.
Recently during his speech at the National Amateur Short Film Festival (NASFF) organized by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), PM Imran Khan made the claim that he gave NFAK a global audience.
He stated that when he started fundraising for Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital he took NFAK with him to the United States and the United Kingdom.
“I invited stars like Sting, Peter Gabriel, Mick Jagger to NFAK concerts and after that they became his fans….”
Headline is not misleading.
"I invited stars like Sting, Peter Gabriel, Mick Jagger to NFAK concerts and after that they became his fans…."
Clearly he's saying he gave NFAK a global audience.
Peter Gabriel had already recorded a huge album with NFAK years before this…. https://t.co/OBTxOuNFml

The PM was implying he made the legendary qawwal a global sensation. But Netizens were quick to recall that when Imran Khan started fundraising for Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, NFAK had already collaborated with Peter Gabriel on an album.
NFAK had become an international sensation with global concerts and collabs long before the time Imran Khan gained global fame with the 1992 World Cup win.
It doesn't matter. NFAK and Peter Gabriel had collaborated in the year IK"s fundraisers were non existent. We're talking about NFAK in 1985 and youthias are wondering about the initiation lists for fundraisers in the mid 1990s.

‘Incorrect’ You are Sir .@KhurramHusain
In “1985” 3 years after the cricket world cup victory – NFK performed at WOMAD – co founded by Peter Gabriel .@nayadaurpk https://t.co/M8Wr5eLl9W— Daniyal Hassan (@DaniyalHassan_) June 28, 2021
Is that sarcasm?
Yeah yeah without the PM Dead Man Walking would never have been conceived much less win at the Oscars

Some Try to Defend Imran Khan
On the other hand, plenty of staunch Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters tried to defend the PM yet again. They tried everything from ‘that’s not what he said/means’ to ‘he’s not wrong though’. What is this Trump-esque deliberation of ‘alternative facts’?
Oh Bhai! World cup victory was 1992 not 1982

Maybe u r forgetting that NFAK was his friend & toured with him all around the globe
Did u've the privilege of travelling with NFAK during his peak? If not I suppose, u are not in a position to even speak. Keeping in view those tours, we'd be more inclined to belive him not you.

Some Western musicians were fans of Qawali of NFAK, Sabri brothers. NFAK became better known after SKMH concerts. Nothing wrong in what IK said. You are distorting his words.

Imran Khan wouldn’t be the first politician to get called out for taking credit for something he didn’t do. Just recently Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Murtaza Wahab was trolled for claiming credit for ‘establishing a beautiful football ground’.

Aerial shots of the PP ‘Sindh government initiative’ is what led one Netizen to call out the Senator that the stadium was a charity initiative run by a couple.
This is a charity run football club in Lyari. Provides top class facilities to young boys and girls, the latter option being unprecedented in the area. The club will turn a year old this winter. You can donate to help support the cause or learn more about the work on the website.

About NFAK Global Fame
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan comes from a long line of classical singers. It was originally Nusrat that landed Sufi music on the global map.
He was signed by Oriental Star Agencies, Birmingham, England in the early 1980s. By 1985, NAFK Nusrat made quite an impression at WOMAD. He then partnered with Peter Gabriel for the music of ‘The Last Temptation of Christ‘ in 1988.
He then went on to collaborate with Michael Brook in 1990. Nusrat then went on to release several movie scores and albums in Europe, India, Japan, Pakistan, and the United States.
NFAK made waves in the genre of Qawwali and Sufi music.
He also created several Bollywood soundtracks.
