There was a time when we were told ‘plagiarized content is unacceptable’. Well, school ended but some people still don’t understand that stealing credit is ‘bad’.
Every now and then we see these kinds of incidents. From brands stealing other peoples’ precious work to artists fighting over copyright infringement with each other. Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery when you’re putting someone else’s hard work as your own.
However, when people or brands try to take credit for something they didn’t do, the internet takes them back to school and teaches them a lesson.
Something similar happened when Senator Murtaza Wahab of Pakistan People’s Party claimed that PPP ‘established a beautiful football ground’ and asked people where it was situated.
This is a beautiful football ground established through #PPP. Can anyone guess where it is? pic.twitter.com/YPSGSAButc

But that, it appears, is not the full story.
Why is Murtaza Wahab Lying to the Public?
Let’s assume he didn’t know what he was doing. Murtaza Wahab shared drone footage of a ‘well maintained’ football ground and claimed it was an initiative taken by the Sindh Government.
It was only until a netizen pointed out that this stadium in Lyari was actually set up by his uncle and aunt in memory of their late son.
“You know you’re doing smth right when the government takes credit for your work,” he said.

He further explained that the football club has been here for almost a year. and that it runs on charity and provides top facilities.
This is a charity run football club in Lyari. Provides top class facilities to young boys and girls, the latter option being unprecedented in the area. The club will turn a year old this winter. You can donate to help support the cause or learn more about the work on the website.

Though he might have meant Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in his tweet, it’s not hard to see how Murtaza’s tweet comes off as misleading. Especially given the fact that this football stadium was a year old.

Sindh Govt gets trolled
It was only until a matter of time when Twitter noticed this. People started to educate the Spokesperson of Sindh Government that you can’t use someone else’s achievements only to present a good image of yourself and your political party.

It's tragic how even the decent folks out there fall into the incompetence trap of PPP. The football ground was established by two private individuals with their own capital in memory of their son, and not by PPP.
What a shame.

Yes, a football ground was created for sure with hard work, blood, sweat & tears by @azfarnaqvi16 & his family in memory of Emad. Please give due credit. In fact, the govt must laud noble initiatives that provide relief to the troubled youth of our nation! @CoachemadFA https://t.co/3r5KlEaSki

Misunderstanding has been Cleared
The netizen who first reported about it has now shared another tweet. He said that he got in touch with the senator and cleared the misunderstanding associated with the acronym PPP.
“I had mistaken the acronym PPP for the political party, instead of public private partnership”.
Regarding my tweet earlier about the @CoachemadFA academy – I had mistaken the acronym PPP for the political party, instead of public private partnership. Have received clarity on what @murtazawahab1 meant. Appreciate the quick response. pls keep supporting @CoachemadFA
