Juhi Chawal Says People Shouldn’t Question the Government

Is she right or wrong?

India’s sweetheart Juhi Chawla says you shouldn’t ask what the government is doing, but what you yourself are doing. Last we checked, in a democracy, the public is supposed to question everything a government does.

The Darr actress made the statement at an event organized to counter the ‘Free Kashmir’ narrative, which was basically an anti-free Kashmir campaign.

“Free Kashmir (narrative), anti-India slogans, false propaganda and clear the misconception.”

We know Juhi Chawla really didn’t get the idea when she said:

“Instead of constantly criticizing the government, one should reflect on own conduct and talk about uniting rather than dividing.”

The general public doesn’t make policies, their elected representatives do. Which is why they call out their representatives (that’s how a democracy works).

Juhi even went as far as to imply that artists that do speak out on these issues (because they vote) do so for a reaction. She says that artists should spend time to understand the situation. Oddly by attending a campaign event, Juhi Chawla isn’t even following her own advice.

“As artistes, it’s unfair to be questioned about incidents ‘just for a reaction’ when they should be given time to truly understand the situation.”

Juhi Chawla takes a position

The Aaina actress thinks that the public has mixed up their opposition to two separate issues – the National Registry of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA 2019).

“Let people understand, whether it’s NRC or CAA, and what’s is it about, why is this being talked about.”

Oddly, since Juhi implied that she took time to understand the situation, has ended up missing the part about NRC being imposed under the CAA 2019. This is the law requiring citizens to ‘prove their origins in India’ otherwise they will be stripped of their citizenship.

While supporting ethnopolitics, the Yes Boss actress said it is sad that people talk about division more than unity. That’s as ironic as it gets.

“Everyone is quick to talk about dividing. Why don’t we talk about uniting? Why does everyone say ‘what is the government doing, why is it doing this?’ but I say if you point one finger there then three fingers are at you.”

She asked people to calm down, after her rant.

“What are we doing? Let’s be calm, understand the situation,”

We think she might have even implied that people going about their regular lives can’t have a sound political opinion but are pressured into giving a reaction.

“We are going to work, thinking how to execute our task, then some incident happens somewhere and suddenly the media asks, ‘what do you think about this?’ We haven’t understood the matter, people haven’t understood the matter but you need a reaction.”

This is sad, especially for Juhi’s fans in Pakistan. The actress is a regular visitor to Pakistan and has managed to stay free of controversies, until now that is.
