Junaid Khan Also Turned Down Lead Role in Aashiqui 2

Two more Pakistani actors were also offered the role.

Talented Pakistani actor and singer Junaid Khan has revealed that he was offered a lead role in famous Bollywood film Aashiqui 2 a few years ago. Junaid was speaking on Shaista Lodhi’s digital show Gupshup with Shaista.

In response to Shaista’s question that whether he was ever offered a film in Bollywood, Junaid Khan said:

“I was asked about it, definitely. At that point, two to three actors from Pakistan were also asked [to do the role].”

The ‘Bin Roye’ star mentioned that Mahesh Bhatt was looking for a new face from Pakistan that has a bit of background in acting and music as well, and is not known in India, Junaid added.

The 37-year-old actor revealed that producers of the film had thrown an online competition ‘who is going to be the next Aashiqui star.’

“I and two to three other Pakistani actors were approached, but somehow, things could not be finalized.”

He admitted regretting the missed opportunity because the film was acclaimed internationally.

Starring two new faces, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the pivotal roles, the Aashiqui 2 was released in April 2013. The movie earned US$25 million during its entire theatrical run.

Besides Junaid Khan, it’s a widely known fact that Imran Abbas was offered the lead male role in Aashiqui 2.  He was actually the first choice for the film. The Creature 3D actor also revealed that he had turned down Ram Leela, the film that gave us ‘DeepVeer‘.

Much like Junaid Khan, Imran Abbas also regrets turning down the opportunity to play the lead in Aashiqui 2.
