The trailer for Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s Kaaf Kangana is out and it’s all about a love story in a war zone. Funded by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) we can see the storyline flexing peace signs for soft power.
“Tum jab hansti ho tou lagta hai India-Pakistan mein dosti honay wali hai (when you laugh it seems as though there will be peace between India and Pakistan).”
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar is known for his blockbuster film Punjab Nahi Jaungi and drama serials Landa Bazaar and Sadqay Tmhare. His directorial debut Kaaf Kangana seems to follow that same bittersweet romance theme.

The director claims his film is ‘completely unlike any previous cross border romances‘ . Does that mean that we can expect a happy ending for his recent production?
Given that it is an ISPR collaboration, the elements of peace through soft power are clear as day. There are some hints of nationalism and patriotism in Kaaf Kangana as well. However, Khalil-ur-Rehman asserts that he created his own storyline.
“Kaaf Kangana has nothing to do at all with previous films dealing with India-Pakistan love stories. Moreover, although we have touched upon patriotism and nationalism in the film, it does not have much bearing on the film’s script.”

The film is like most of his projects – a love story. Although Kaaf Kangana’s timeline starts at the time of partition, it is not a period drama by any means. Its story follows an inter-faith romance between a Muslim and a Hindu.
“The film is an intense and incomplete love story of 1947 that will be completed in 2019.”

Kaaf Kangana cast Sami Khan and newbie Eshal Fayaz. It also marks Fiza Ali’s comeback after a long hiatus. The film features dance numbers by Ayesha Omer and Neelam Munir.
The director also announced Kaaf Kangana release date to be Eid-ul-Azha.
