As Muslims across the globe engage in observing fasts in the month of Ramadan, Kangana Ranaut makes another controversial statement. The Bollywood actress called for a ban on Ramadan gatherings amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Queen actress in a tweet requested the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately halt religious gatherings, calling for a ban on Ramadan congregations.

“After Kumbh Mela …. Honorable Prime Minister ji please request to stop Ramzan gathering also”

Soon afterwards, the backlash led Kangana Ranaut to delete the tweet.

Kangana’s tweet came after the Hindu festival, Kumbh Mela led to a surge in coronavirus cases in the country and the onset of the second wave of the pandemic.

PM Modi had called on the public to make Kumbh Mela symbolic. And spectacular it was as some 5 million un-masked Hindu pilgrims arrived on the banks of the holy Ganges River in the northern city of Haridwar.

Just a day later, 30 ‘sadhus’ contracted COVID-19 amid the Kumbh festivities.

These pilgrims gathered from far and wide to take a dip in Ganga. In just two days nearly 2,000 infections among festival-goers were detected last week.

A day later, The PM had requested authorities to inquire about the health and safety of the seers and asked them to keep religious congregations symbolic, respecting Covid SOPs.
