The city of Karachi has had its third spell of monsoon rains yesterday morning. The weather sure has become a little pleasant. But at what cost? Apparently the city has been left to its own devices, which is a polite way of saying its drowning.
The heavy showers on Sunday and Monday caused a lot of destruction and inconvenience to its inhabitants.
Rainwater from the last two days has still not been drained out from different places as low-lying areas of Central, East and West Districts remain flooded.
Following the rains, electricity in several areas had been suspended. Many died due to electrocution. Roads, alleys and homes had been flooded with rainwater mixed with sewage. Many experienced awful traffic jams as well.
Karachites get excited over rain, little do they know the trubulent consequences it bring for next several months just because the local authorities don't pay heed on basic infrastructure so the rain don't become a misery for many!#KarachiSinks pic.twitter.com/Tmgb4fNh7r

This is definitely not an unfamiliar sight for Karachites. But the scale of this criminal neglect has broken all records this time.
Every year, monsoon rains take a toll on the city and its people go through the same menace every single year. 2020 is about to end in a few months but Karachi is yet to have a proper drainage system.
Another rain and once again the same story of our #Karachi
The city has no sewers, no drainage system. Sindh government is busy in celebrating birthday's or introducing Ajrak Masks 😷#karachirain pic.twitter.com/wQMuBP6eY1— Amna Raheem (@amnaraheem5) July 26, 2020
The showers have turned the city into a river and you can actually see cars and motorbikes floating as if they were made of plastic. Who is responsible for this? We can’t just ignore the situation by calling it a ‘natural calamity’ because its more about mismanagement and neglect from our politicians.
Karachi is not happy
Last night, residents took to social media to vent their anger. They called out politicians for leaving Karachi unattended, after which #KarachiSinks started trending on Twitter.
Here’s how Twitter feels about the whole situation in Karachi.
