Karachi Gets Its First ‘3D Animal Park’ [Pictures]

An alternative for zoos.

Karachi is getting it’s first ‘3D park’, and we’re wondering if that means no more animals in zoo enclosures? Apparently that is the idea because this park will feature paintings of animals ‘with 3D effects.’

With all the debate surrounding animal cruelty and keeping animals in zoo, this is something Pakistan should consider. There are many cases of animals, in some cases endangered animals, dying in zoo enclosures due to neglect or poor conditions.

Where is Karachi’s First 3D Park?

Karachi’s first ‘3D park’ will be inaugurated in the Lines Area on January 25th. DMC East is converting Basharat Park in Lines Area’s UC 10 into the 3D park. It’s located opposite the Saddar parking plaza.

Besides the larger than life imagery, the 3D park will also have regular necessities like a food court, swing sets, etc. Additionally, the park will also have colorful canopies and fancy lights.

Alternative for Zoos

There have been many instances of animals dying in Pakistani zoos from negligence or poor conditions. Even in parts of the world with stricter laws to protect animals, the detrimental effects that come from keeping animals in captivity are unavoidable for the most part.

Zoos argue that they conserve animal populations with artificial insemination but the reality is that despite keeping their numbers up, a zoo environment doesn’t ensure the longevity of these animals.

The opposite is true. Rather than living a safe and long life, animals in zoos are subject to trade, to be sold or bartered. Animals that are no longer wanted are kept in a warehouse (just like inanimate objects).

Many species form lasting bonds that are important to their long-term health. When removed from established social groups, these animals can not adjust to new routines.

To quote just one example, every snow leopard which was ever moved ended up dying. Zoos must not be confused for natural reserves where the natural habitat of various species is protected to protect the natural population.

In this regard, 3D parks are a good alternative for the zoo industry. Kids can get to learn all about animals via helpful interactive videos and art, without endangering the lives of poor animals in the process.
