Local Masjid in Islamabad Wins the Internet With No Dowry Campaign

People took oath in support to this crusade.

A mosque in the federal capital, Islamabad has started a “No Dowry Campaign” to fight against the relentless custom of dowry in our society. People from different backgrounds have joined this initiative and pledged to stop giving and taking dowry that puts pressure on families and keeps inequality alive.

People have united for this common cause that plagues society by signing the banner to raise awareness and challenge societal norms.

The campaign carries a powerful message that highlights the significance of every individual’s role in society and it is the renaissance of a new era where people are empowered and treated fairly.

Dowry is an ancient practice defined as the giving of oversized gifts in the context of marriage. It was conceived as an antemortem or live inheritance for the bride in lieu of family inheritance meant for the sons only.

Over time the practice has become burdensome and toxic for the brides and parents. Dowry is not just given to the bride, there are expectations and a sense of entitlement for the groom and his family that they will receive large amounts of gold, household furniture, cars, and cash.
