The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is trending on social media for celebrating the Hindu festival Diwali on campus, and is now under fire once again.
LUMS is usually known as the ‘Harvard of Pakistan’ because it sets an unusually high bar for Pakistanis and gives parallel universe vibes to citizens and its students. It is one of the top universities in Pakistan, but that doesn’t exclude it from controversies.
The Harvard of Pakistan is trending online once again, but this time, its for Diwali celebration on campus.
Here are a few tweets about the incident:
Muslims in lums attending diwali gives me such “white people wanting to know more about other culture” vibes

I have never seen white people celebrating Eid and wearing shalwar qameez, but laiba from LUMS and hamza from Karachi are desperate to dress up as clowns. As if they aren't clowns enough.

No diss @ LUMS but really I've seen people go to elaborate lengths to put together a Halloween outfit but would never wear something new, sulk the whole day and ruin everyone else's Eid as well. https://t.co/7QoRdxUkBG

Eids don't fascinate them, they won't dress up, will sleep all the day, will call it boring & dull but Farzana & Ashiq husain from lums love celebrating Halloween, playing holli & adopting every western shit. This nation losing their own identity & culture while chasing others.

The university polishes some of the top minds throughout Pakistan. These future innovators have access to the best teachers, facilities, and opportunities, and a core part of this is their observance of merit. However, Diwali is a minority religious festival, and LUMS students celebrating it on a major scale is unusual.

Excellent of LUMs students to respect other cultural and religious traditions
