Marriyum Aurangzeb Slammed For Tipping PML-N’s Afzal Khokhar To Target PM’s Sister

Netizens found the comments unnecessary and in bad taste.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Marriyum Aurangzeb is being slammed online for telling a male colleague, Afzal Khokhar to target Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister.

A video surfaced online of Marriyum Aurangzeb giving PML-N leader, Afzal Khokhar ‘a tip’ amid his address on the National Assembly floor. The PML-N rep could be overheard saying ‘mention Aleema Khan over her alleged corrupt practices.’

“Mention sewing machines of PM’s sister.”

To which Afzal Khokhar then says on the NA Assembly floor;

 “I have not given my sisters sewing machines from the government funds”.

While the comments were bound to draw ire from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the public found it distasteful as well.

Netizens found it unnecessary and inappropriate to trash other women when apparently trying to establish that, ‘PMLN respects and preserves respect for mothers, sisters, and daughters’.

The concept of ‘respect for mothers, sisters, and daughters’ has been the center of debate for long with progressives calling for women to be given the same respect as men and be treated as human before all else, rather than having to ‘earn space’ through their association to men.

Afzal Khokar’s Lahore house, Khokhar Palace was razed last Sunday, over illegal encroachment. The PML-N leader claimed the PTI administration stormed his home late at night and destroyed furniture among other things.

“This type of attitude of Punjab authorities will not be tolerated, … On one hand, the illegal palatial house of Prime Minister Imran Khan in Banigala has been regularised at a cost of Rs1.2 million while on the other my legitimate house is demolished,”

When he tabled a motion against the move in NA the government defended the operation since the court already ruled the construction was illegal.
