There has been no dearth of commentary on a certain statement by Malala Yousafzai in her British Vogue interview. The statement in question is the education activists’ views on marriage.

“I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?”

One person offering her two cents is VJ and Instagram model, Mathira. In a story on her Instagram, Mathira affirmed how marriage is a beautiful part of a relationship.

“Malala, please we should be teaching this generation that nikkah is sunnah, it’s not just about signing a paper – you aren’t buying a plot, lol, … It’s about praying and getting your new beginning blessed in a proper way,” she claimed.

Additionally, Mathira called out how;

“Forced marriages, abusive marriages, child marriages are bad. But getting a nikkah done with the blessings of Allah is beautiful. So if you think having someone as a partner in your life is great, then getting your future blessed in a halal way is wonderful.”

The VJ wrote in the story that no matter how enlightened and free she is, she will always teach her children the importance of marriage and the importance of ‘nikkah‘. And will teach them how about ‘partnership post marriage‘.

“No matter how modern I am, I will always teach my kids to go for nikkah and also teach them that committing yourself in marriage is healthy. Yes, sometimes marriages don’t work out but Allah will bring someone special for you,” she said.

Mathira also posted another story on the subject of marriage and how not all marriages last. Not every relationship is forever. Marriages fail and it’s painful but that shouldn’t deter someone from trying again.

In fact, once she meets ‘Mr. Right’, the starlet will get married again for sure.

“And yeah, I might even get married again when I find the right guy. So please stop telling me I have been divorced, no big deal. It’s better to be happy alone than be sad and depressed in a broken marriage.”

She for one isn’t about to let society dictate her choices.
