Netizens React to Rumored Babar Azam ‘Rishta Story’

Babar Azam

While media outlets reported that Babar Azam is set to get married soon after ‘succumbing’ to familial pressure to wed a cousin, there has been no official confirmation on the matter.

So of course, Netizens took this as an opportunity to laugh about the rumored ordeal.

These rumors erupted after a Q&A session on Twitter by Pakistani cricket team captain Azhar Ali. When a fan asked the captain to say something for Babar Azam he retorted with;

“Shadi ker lay, (get married)”

Since then, rumors emerged that the prodigal batsman is engaged to a paternal cousin last month. News outlets went as far as to report that the 26-year-old will tie the knot next year after consultation between the two families.

Hence the rumors surfaced that he’s marrying his ‘phopho ki beti’ (paternal aunt’s daughter).

Additionally, for those who did fall for the rumors, people raised the alarm bell on cousin marriages. We all know these attempts to ‘keep the bloodline pure’ have long-term genetic repercussions. Cousin marriages reduce variation in the gene pool allowing pairing of submissive alleles (gene pair that result in expression of a trait) which causes diseases.
