Petty Much? Here’s Why Malala Yousafzai and Priyanka Chopra Unfollowed Hasan Minhaj

The Bollywood diva stood by her Pakistani friend, stating Hasan “prefers petty over funny”.

Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai just unfollowed American comedian Hasan Minhaj on Instagram after he made a joke about not following her back on Instagram. Surprisingly, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who is known to be friends with Malala Yousafzai, unfollowed him and called him out for being “petty”.

On 4 October, Hasan Minhaj had joked that Malala Yousafzai follows him on Instagram but he has no interest in following her back. The Pakistani activist found the joke in bad taste as she unfollowed him the next day.

Unfazed, Hasan Minhaj carried the joke on in his latest post yesterday with a ‘breaking news’ video titled “Malala Claps Back” which he captioned: “Okay, it’s gettin outta hand Malala!”

He stated the following details of this social media fiasco:

On October 4th, I made a joke about Noble Peace Prize winner Malala. I said she follows me on Instagram and I don’t follow her back. Then on October 5th, she retaliated (asking who is this man?). Instead of doing a runoff, she unfollowed me on Instagram. I am sorry Malala, follow me back. I don’t know if I’ll follow you though. I am that petty.

Malala Yousafzai’s supporters forwarded the video to her and she thanked them for their concern.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra supported followed suit by distancing herself from the comedian on social media.

The Indian beauty queen threw her own little zinger at him, saying he “prefers petty over funny”.

BURN!!! We bet Hasan Minhaj did not see this coming!

Malala Yousafzai and Priyanka Chopra have become close friends since their meeting at the Global Goals Awards at the UN General Assembly in 2017. The actress later went on to write a heartfelt tweet for the young Pakistani activist, expressing her joy at meeting her: “Oh Malala, no words will be enough. I can’t believe I met you! You’re just a young girl with so much heart and such achievements. So proud”.

Malala Yousafzai is currently in Pakistan with her family, visiting the various flood-hit areas of the country. She recently met the flood affectees in the Chhandan area of Juhi, district Dadu, Sindh.
