If you are an artist, better get your portfolio online.

The Punjab Council of the Arts is scouting for new artistic talent. The scouting process will have the artists’ work exhibited via online tours.

Looks like Punjab Council of Arts is acting smart and thinking ahead. With no knowing how long the COVID-19 pandemic will last, its better to go virtual.

The Council’s Operations Director, Muhammad Abrar Alam told Dawn that a talent hunt had been launched to find ‘new talent in music, fine arts, literature and creative art to encourage artists, artisans, and intellectuals‘.

The talent hunt will be held via online exhibitions, talks, and performances in various districts of Punjab. These competitions will be organized at the district, divisional and provincial levels.

According to Director Muhammad Abrar Alam, stakeholders, especially the education department and district and divisional heads of arts councils will be a part of this.

While the directors of divisional arts councils operating under the Punjab Council of the Arts will look after the actual scouting process. First, they will hold auditions at a local level. The selected candidates will then be invited to compete at the divisional level.

Winners will then walk away with a cash prize. Encouragement prizes will also be handed out to participants.

The grand finale will then see participants compete at a provincial level. That virtual exhibition will be organized in Lahore. Again cash prizes will be handed to the winners, along with encouragement prizes to other participants.

How they’ll manage to organize this all virtually as they plan to do so is unknown. Especially for the finale. Will participants be gathered to compete in person and the exhibition showcased online?

Or will everything be fully virtual with competitors signing in from their remote locations to participate? We hope that the authorities answers these questions soon.
