Reema Khan Backtracks on Dirilis Ertugrul Comments After Public Backlash

Here’s what she has to say.

Reema Khan

After the public made their opinion about Ertugrul Ghazi loud and clear, former actress Reema Khan has backtracked on her earlier statement. The mega-hit Turkish series, which goes by Dirilis Ertugrul originally, is a hit with the Pakistani masses.

In another episode of her Ramadan transmission, Reema Khan says that she had not complained about foreign content on national television. She now claims that her intentions were different. What she really meant to say was that there should be a ‘barter system‘ when it comes to broadcasting foreign content.

“I’m not at all against the drama and our history, …. how can I be against something good?”

Understandably, Reema was irked by the backlash of her previous statement.

“All I said was that if this is being broadcast on our national channel there should be a ‘barter system‘. Barter system means our archives have olf PTV content if that were dubbed and aired in Turkey or this should be discussed with their government, then the revenue from that would boost our production.”

She went as far as to indirectly dub the backlash against her comments to be a sin. She explained how presenting a positive statement in a negative light was also a sin. However, did the public think her previous comments were positive?

“Sharing someone’s positive statements with a negative light is a sin.”

Background

Previously Reema Khan backed Shaan Shahid’s stance on PTV not broadcasting Ertugrul Ghazi, the Urdu dubbed version of the world-renowned series Dirilis Ertugrul. The actress talked about how it was inappropriate for a state broadcaster to be airing foreign content.

She says the move is not doing any favors to local artists, who are tax-payers.

Her comments triggered a massive public backlash, as Dirlis Ertugrul has a steadily growing fanbase in Pakistan.

Pakistani fanbases do not take anything lightly and the outcome was harsh. Plenty of other Pakistani artists have voiced opposition to the internationally beloved series. However, Reema Khan is the first to take back her comments.

Comments

  1. Ye baat isi tafseel sy ap pehlay kar daiteen.
Pehlay Shan sb k sath agree kr k ab back out kar gaieen.

  2. Reema give us the names of those dramas that we should ask turkey to see I would be happy if you share the old drama names . I love alpha bravo Charlie and still saw that drama even after years

  3. Pakistani drama content:
Marriage, in laws conspiracies, second marriage , divorce and full stop.

  4. Pakistani actors should feel ashamed as instead to support our Turkish brothers and sisters, they are criticizing likewise enemies, it’s a propaganda against our unity, history and faith.
Every step like DIRILS should be supported at any cost so as realize and build our own soul.
LONG LIVE PAKISTAN and TURKISH FRIENDSHIP
    LONG LIVE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD

  5. Ab jab public ne chitar lagaye to statement badal lia. Reema itni bhi nanhi kaaki nahi hen k woh kia kehna chah rahi theen or na awam itne bewaqoof hen jo samjh nahi rahe unje drame

  6. No her and shaan statement was full of jealousy,to he honest ,how many actor, and actress can play Ertugrul N HALEEMA ROLE? What our drama is teach us?,how to disrespect parents, how to runaway from home, everything against Islam,so she should be careful abt her statement

  7. please mention the name which should be broadcast in Turkey?
Lem’me clear one thing, Turkey did’t charge any thing for broadcasting and dubbing. They gave us as a gift.

  8. Yes so which Pakistani shows are worth showing abroad?

    Who cares what reema thinks.

The Pakistani film industry has been a disaster – simply regurgitating and copying cheap and worthless dramas and films from India.

Ertugrul is a masterpiece. One episode is worth more than an entire year of production from Pakistan.

I am hoping that this foreign competition will help Pakistan raise its standards.

It’s about time some interest is directed westward. I would rather see high quality content from Turkey than some stupid third class drama about divorce and stupid familial drama that seems all to common in South Asia
