Rescuing Your Earphones From Trains Is Risky, This One Woman Did It Anyways

This woman avoided a ‘first world tragedy‘ and the Internet dubbed her a hero (really digital citizens?). She managed to save her expensive Airpods from the subway, instead of getting a new pair like normal people could. Then people act surprised we ended up with Trump as a world leader, and Ivanka at the G20 summit.

While we all understand the misery of losing a wireless earphone in the 21st century, it is something we’re used to (like a hangover).

How To Save Your AirPod From Trains (And Avoid Getting Killed Over It)

So the whole story starts like this. This netizen from New York Ashley Mayer was waiting for her train when one of her earbuds fell on the train tracks.

Rather than act on instinct or impulse, she accepted her loss with grace.

The AirPod fell out of my ear several feet away from the edge of the subway platform, but I’ve never seen anything more inevitable. RIP little buddy. Thanks for all the podcasts.

Ashley avoided being the first earbud related subway death and she still made it to the gym. Then again she’s a New Yorker, so feelings are something she might deal with later.

While I’m understandably shattered, I’m proud of myself for:

1) Not lunging after it and becoming the first ever AirPod-related subway death.

2) Still going to the gym against all odds and without entertainment!!!

To add to that she works in Communications at Glossier. So maybe Ashley has killer emotional stability and management (not to be confused emotional indifference most New Yorkers suffer from).

Which brings us to the next part of the story. What do you do when you lose an earbud but it’s still there? (so not lost, just out of reach).

A whole day later the earbud was still there on the tracks. So Ashley asked if they could rescue ‘him.’

It would’ve taken two hours to do so and ain’t nobody got time for that.

To this, Ashley decided she’ll just do the rescuing herself. Still avoiding an earbud related subway death.

She did it. She saved him!

Ashley then took the little guy home, let it recharge, and gave the Pod some good disinfecting. Then when it was ready she stuck it back in her ear like any normal person would (what were expecting her to do after the whole hassle).

First world or not we’ve all had an ‘Ashley moment‘. Forgetting something in the Uber and running after it, only to realize you should’ve just called the driver. (and not risk looking crazy)

Not drinking water all day because you lost your own water bottle (not taking any chances) Only to realize Flint doesn’t have clean drinking water, and Cape Town doesn’t have any water.

So I guess the idea here is while we can empathize with these ‘contemporary problems’ let’s not throw around the word ‘hero’ lightly. We’re all heroes just because we deal with this thing called the 21st century (we kid, we kid).
