The actor is steering away from controversial views.

India is currently in a state of ideological crisis with its Citizenship Amendment act creating rifts amongst it’s diverse and culturally rich population.

The Citizenship Amendment Act seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslims from neighboring countries.

Marginalized people from different religions and backgrounds such as Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Christians from neighboring countries can apply for citizenship in India as per the new law. However, Muslim immigrants are excluded from the new citizenship act.

The Act was passed by the Parliament of India on December 11, 2019.

Since then, massive protests have taken place in India. Not just by the common man, but some Bollywood celebrities have also called out the Indian government for their unjust policies.

Bollywood stars under notice

Bollywood stars have immense influential power over the people, which they regularly exercise when it comes to promoting movies or adverts (i.e serving their own self-centered agenda).

But many stay silent when it really matters, when it’s time to step up and use that influential status to promote the interests of the common man.

And most of them do not participate in order to protect their careers.

Saif Ali Khan’s Response

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recently under fire by his co-star Aamir Bashir. Both of them starred together in the Netflix series “Sacred Games” where they played two cops hunting down a dangerous criminal.

Bashir is skillfully playing his part in protesting against the Act by actively posting on Twitter.

But when it was Saif’s turn to protest, the actor released a statement to Indian media

“There are many things that give us a cause for concern, watching and wondering how where it will all end up. It is everybody’s right to protest peacefully and everybody’s right not to”.

“I would like the protest to be associated with exactly what I am protesting against. There might be a possibility that I will end up representing a different kind of protest. So I am not sure yet. Until I am sure what I am protesting against and whether it is going to be taken that way, I need to think more.”

The 49-year-old Khan is the only Khan to comment on the subject and safe to say it’s not looking good. This is because Saif is still appearing neutral even though the Muslim community in India is under threat.

His Co-Star calls him out

While his statement drew ire from many of his fans, his co-star Bashir took him to account and called him out on Twitter

The star has temporarily evaded fans and critics by taking a vacation with his wife (Kareena Kapoor) and his son (Taimur).

Maybe some reflection and downtime might give Khan some clarity and enable him to carefully choose his words.
