Sakina Samo Stands By Saba Qamar

The veteran star believes Saba Qamar is being unfairly criticized.

Popular Pakistani actress Sakina Samo came out in defense of fellow actress Saba Qamar after her music video with Bilal Saeed created controversy on social media.

The veteran actress stood by and supported Saba after an FIR was registered against her and Bilal Saeed for shooting a music video at a mosque.

On August 13, Saba Qamar starred in Bilal Saeed’s song “Qabool”. While the song is praised by critics, the general public did not appreciate the use of a real mosque to be used as a location to shoot a music video.

The Akbari Gate police registered a case against the two after the complaints of lawyer Farhat Manzoor.

The Akbari Gate police registered the case on the complaint of lawyer Farhat Manzoor. The FIR has been registered under Pakistan Penal Code’s Section 295 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

A couple of days later, the Lahore session court granted interim bail of Rs. 50,000 surety bonds to Saba and Bilal in a case relating to the use of the Wazir Khan Mosque.

While many people criticized the use of a sacred location for a music video, actress Sakina Samo came in defense of Saba Qamar, saying she is a fine artist and a kind person. She took to her Instagram account to show her support of Saba, saying:

“In solidarity with Saba, with great sadness I say. This is utterly wrong. She’s a fine artist and a kind person. She doesn’t do anything bad to anybody. She’s happy in her world. I think it’s totally unfair to her and an insult to her talent.”

Samo also believes that the incident was overly exaggerated and the artists in the Qabool video never intended to hurt the Muslims’ sentiments.

“I believe her good intentions therefore I support her. Actor community should stand by her,” said Samo. “If we don’t today, then tomorrow it can be anybody’s turn. So beware my fellow actors.”
