Durj in Trouble?

Three Pakistani films, Durj, Daal Chawal, and Kaaf Kangana were scheduled to release on October 2019. While the latter two cleared the board, Durj did not.

Shamoon Abbasi’s latest directorial may be good enough for the 72nd edition of Cannes Film Festival but not the Pakistani censor boards. Meanwhile the film will release in United States, United Kingdom, and Canada on October 11th. The film will also release in Norway and Denmark later.

Given the subject matter of cannibalism portrayed in the film, Durj was too much for some to stomach. No wonder some quarters thought to ban the movie.

“Many actors left us in the process of the making of this film.. Some didn’t have the courage to carry on with the harsh shoots on the scorching sun in the mountains which was really a task and some simply dint believe in the film, (not surprised).”

The film was purportedly inspired by real events. Durj cast Shamoon Abbasi as the lead while other cast members include Sherry Shah, Maira, Nouman Javaid, and Dodi Khan.
