A police officer turned film-maker is not so odd (Hamza Ali Abbasi went that route), but a serving police officer turned film-maker is certainly a new thing.
A deputy inspector general-level officer, Akbar Nasir Khan, who also happens to be the in-charge of Punjab Safe Cities Authority, is going down the film-making rabbit-hole. So what was it like?
Let’s be honest there isn’t much positive representation for civil security. In fact, there hasn’t been since Andhera Ujala. Policemen are either the butt of the joke, or villains.

Amid all this, not very goodwill, producer, writer and music composer Akbar Nasir Khan created Daal Chawal. Rather than sit around for someone to highlight the police’s soft side this went ahead and made the movie himself.
The mission of this project is to highlight the harsh environment that is just another day at work for policemen. This will help people understand how the police-force works and commemorate police martyrs.

The title Daal Chawal is supposed to ‘set cine-goers taste-buds into motion‘.
It is all set to release on October 4. The film is an endeavour to build a positive image for policemen.

Akbar Nasir Khan’s Funclub Production produced the film while Awais Khalid directed the venture. The movie follows the protagonist Ahmed, an intellectual young man.
Daal Chawal cast gave newbies a chance. The film features newbies Ahmed Sufiyan and Momina Iqbal in leading roles, along with Salman Shahid and Shafqat Cheema in key roles.
Akbar Nasir Khan revealed that the film is based on true events. While it’s the theme is social issues, the execution is painted in humor.
As a music composer its a win for Akbar Nasir Khan to get Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on board for theme song. New singers Jabbar Abbas and Maria Mir also contributed to the soundtrack.
