After being banned from releasing in Pakistan, Shamoon Abbasi’s much-anticipated movie ‘Durj’ is also facing a postponement in the UAE for an unknown period of time.

Shamoon broke the news on his Twitter handle on Thursday.
“With the heavy heart, I have to announce that the Gulf release that was due today on October 10, 2019, has now been postponed for an unknown period because of this anonymous ban on #Durj. I hope the censor board Islamabad is satisfied now.”

The actor said that he and the filmmakers were ‘shocked and surprised’ that due to Islamabad Censor Board’s ban; they have lost an entire UAE region.
He added;
“We hope to continue with the due diligence in the future and will continue to ask for a solution to this matter as a lot of financial losses are already underway because of this ban.”
The ‘Waar’ actor requested the authorities to consider his appeal for a full board review of his film and resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Earlier this month, after being cleared from Sindh and Punjab censor boards, the film was banned by the Islamabad board, disappointing Shamoon and the cast.

Meanwhile, the film’s British premiere brought in rave reviews. Durj received a three-minute standing ovation at Bradford Cineworld in London.

The movie is based on real-life incidents where two brothers dug over 100 graves and ate corpses.
The movie has already premiered at the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Besides Shamoon, Durj cast Myra Khan, Majid Khan, and Nouman Javaid in pivotal roles.
