Actress and model Sonya Hussain is one of the top Pakistani celebrities. In a short span of time, Sonya has made a name for herself both on television and in films.
She recently appeared in Say It All With Iffat Omar and talked about her life, career and upcoming projects.
Her Career
Sonya talked about her childhood and how she ended up on the big screen. She revealed what made her start her career as an actress.
“I am not very outspoken so I am unable to express my thoughts openly. However, I felt that this platform can help me share my opinions and it can help me convey my message to the society.”
When asked what does she prefer in a script, Sonya said she appreciates works that are only centered around ‘heroin-ism’.
“I don’t like the concepts where the main lead is only supposed to act coy. I believe, as actors we should be able to point out the problems in the society through our work. I think that’s really important, especially, in a society like ours which is very conservative. I try to highlight such problems and awareness through my dramas that are generally not talked about.”

She is a feminist
The actress also shared her pro-feminist opinions and emphasized on gender equality. She feels that the jargon has been misinterpreted by many women and that they have come to think that being equal only means being able to step outside and earn a living. Housework is as valuable as a corporate job and we must learn to accept it.
On Meray Pass Tum Ho
When asked whom she would choose to work with between Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui, Sonya replied:
“I was actually offered Mere Paas Tum Ho with Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui. However, I did not take this project because I have some issues related to women in our society. We don’t have acceptance for women and I don’t want to represent women in a negative light. I was not able to accept that character.”
Sonya also revealed that she does not have any regrets of rejecting this drama even after it became popular, “I thought a lot before coming with a decision and I have no regrets.”
The actress then went on to praise Ayeza Khan for portraying such a challenging character so well.
In the end, Sonya said if she ever got the chance to choose between Humayun Saeed or Adnan Siddiqui, she will choose Adnan Siddiqui.
