Weddings are solemnized in heaven but celebrated on Earth. We’re sure most of us have heard of this cliche by now. While a wedding is a very important event in anyone’s life, it is also a time when some folks go all out in outdoing others. Hey, if you got the moolah, you gots to flaunt it. That holds true for Pakistani weddings of the rich and famous.

It is that one event where people put on their most glamorous outfits, book a beautiful venue to accommodate their guests, and also a chance to see some of your relatives bust out their poorly choreographed dance moves.

But hey. When you’re a multimillionaire or a very prominent public figure with an excessive amount of money (legal or illegal) to spare, this is the time to celebrate in grand fashion.

Here are some of the biggest wedding events ever held in Pakistan.

Zainab Zoraiz and Zoraiz Malik

This was one of the biggest marriage events in the history of Pakistan. When Malik Riaz’s grandson Zoraiz got married to Zainab, the real-estate mogul decorated Bahria Town Lahore like a bride.

Various high profile people from around the world came to celebrate the event.

Even the Badshahi Masjid was used as an event for the wedding ceremony as it was lavishly decorated. Not only that, Malik Riaz gifted his grandson a Bugatti! Shouldn’t come as a surprise if your grandfather is one of the richest men in Pakistan.

Hamza Malik and Maryam Malik

Much like his grandson, Malik Riaz went all out for his granddaughter’s wedding. Maryam Malik’s wedding was also a memorable occasion as Bahria Town was once again decorated in bright lights.

Even renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan made it a night to remember as he evoked the magic of the occasion throughout the Mehndi event.

While most other Barat events feature a luxury car or a ‘baggy’ for a classy touch, Malik Riaz decided to bring in a helicopter for her granddaughter’s Ruksati. Not only that, he even gifted an Audi R8 to the groom that is worth around Rs. 100 million!

Moving on from the Riaz family now.

Sharmila Farooqi and Hasham Riaz Sheikh

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member Sharmila Farooqi got married in grand fashion to Hasham Sheikh. The groom is not just an advisor to former President Asif Ali Zardari, but also a former Wall Street investment banker.

The wedding festivities began with a luxurious bridal shower that also saw celebrity Sukhbir Singh from India attending the Mayoon ceremony.

Sharmila herself made a grand entry for the occasion as she arrived on a white horse that is estimated to be over Rs. 2.1 million. Sources say that her official wedding dress cost around Rs. 6 million!

Mehrunnisa and Munir Ahmed

Mehrunnisa is the daughter of Maryam Safdar and the granddaughter of former Prime Minister and Muslim League Noon (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif. Her marriage to the son of the renowned industrialist Chaudhry Munir Ahmed was an international event.

Regarded as one of the most lavish weddings in the history of Pakistan, the event started with a Nikkah ceremony that took place in Masjid e Nabvi.

The marriage was solemnized in Pakistan. Subsequent events were held in Dubai, and finally in London. Over four thousand people attended the wedding ceremony, featuring high profile VIP guests who were accommodated in five-star hotels.

With the current government trying their best to account for Mian Saab’s money, it’s anyone’s guess that a sizeable chunk of the Sharif fortune was spent on this wedding.

Anush Ammar and Muneeb

This is the longest wedding on this list, by which we mean it took forever to conclude! The celebrations started in Pakistan and ended all the way to Turkey.

Anush Ammar is the granddaughter of Senator Gulzar Ahmed, a big name in the textile business. Both Anush and her husband Muneeb launched a successful clothing brand together before tying the knot.

Their wedding started off with the Nikkah ceremony at Badshahi Mosque (a popular trend among the wealthy Pakistani businessmen), after which all the guests of the wedding were flown on a private plane to Turkey.

This was followed by lavish bridal showers, Disney nights, concerts, and countless other celebrations that lasted for months! After the ‘wedding celebrations’ in Turkey, the couple came back to Pakistan for even more wedding festivities!
