3 Films That Predicted The Rise of the Coronavirus Epidemic

When fiction is closer to reality.

With the outbreak of the Coronavirus, the world is in a state of panic and concern. Rarely has such type of virus and disease ever gotten out of hand.

Films have often foreshadowed the outbreak of such terrifying diseases. While we viewed these films with popcorn and little care, it is time to see how eerily close they are to our current reality.

Contagion

Take 2011’s Contagion for example. The Hollywood film starring Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law, predicted a disease similar to Coronavirus that too began to spread from China to the rest of the world!

If that wasn’t enough of a coincidence, the Steven Soderbergh-directed film revealed at the end that the cause of the virus was a bat – just like the Coronavirus!

Outbreak

Another film that predicted a deadly viral infection was the 1995 film Outbreak. Though, this one tells the tale about a different kind of virus that was carried by a monkey host in the African rainforest.

The premise of the film is very much about the deadly virus spreading to the entire world population and is surely frightening!

28 Days Later

Other examples include 28 Days Later and pretty much every zombie-horror film. But let’s hope a zombie outbreak still remains a silly piece of fiction.

The outbreak of Coronavirus in China has led to 170 deaths in the country. Some 7,711 people in China are now confirmed to have the infection, which has spread from Wuhan’s Hubei province to every one of China’s 31 provinces.

The disease has also been identified in about 21 other countries now and controlling the disease is posing a serious challenge. Some cases of Coronavirus have also been reported in Pakistan which is truly terrifying and matter of great concern.

Stay posted and make sure to take extra health precaution these days.
