This Animated Short Focuses On ‘Acid Crimes’ [Video]

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (SOC) Films added another short to her award-winning AAGAHI series for public awareness. The latest short brings you up to speed about ‘Acid Crimes.

This animated short informs viewers about what constitutes as an acid crime. It breaks down various forms of the crime specifically with the intent of harming another human being.

The short then lists punishments for convicted offenders, illegal usage and sale of acid and other corrosive chemicals which are punishable by the Pakistani legal system.

“A sentence of 14 years jail, life imprisonment, a one million rupee fine or all of the above.”

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy started AAGAHI, a public awareness campaign that aims to educate women about their legal rights in Pakistan.

Each short in the series ends by providing viewers with contact information for various helplines, women’s shelters, counseling services, and legal support services available for their legal problem.

The series covers a range of problems faced by women in Pakistan and informs viewers on the laws pertaining to those issues, as well as legal interpretation and the safety that it provides to the victim.

Two-Time Academy Award Winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy own production house SOC Films conceptualized, produced and directed the AAGAHI series.

She listed the help of Cake actress Aamina Sheikh to narrate the shorts in Urdu. The series is available on YouTube. It is also being shared free of cost with all news and media channels for dissemination across the country.
