This is How Ali Kureshi Bagged a Debut in “Zindagi Tamasha”

A debut to remember?

Models Ali Kureshi and Eman Sulemna are making their film debuts in Sarmad Khoosat’s Zindagi Tamasha. How Ali Kureshi bagged his role for it is a story in itself.

While the Zindagi Tamasha trailer was enough to get everyone talking, Ali Kureshi’s casting story will do the same.

The model-cum-actor will be playing the role of the lead character Rahat’s son-in-law. Ali plays Danish, Sadaf’s husband in the film.

“My character is Danish, he lives in Lahore and belongs to a middle-class family and he’s a very loving, kind and supportive husband.”

Besides being the supportive husband he says he’ll be playing, we get to see him be a good son-in-law in the trailer. Particularly when the defamation campaign against Rahat starts.

“Something happens in my wife Sadaf’s family and he supports her and her family throughout the movie. The story is about a Lahori family and my father-in-law is a famous Naat Khwan and he does something which was not accepted by the society.”

How did Ali Qureshi Get This Role?

So how did he land this role? First off, he has Facebook to thank for that. Apparently director Sarmad Khoosat saw the model on Facebook and had his team scout him out.

“Sarmad saw my face on Facebook and he asked his team to contact me, … I saw their message after a few days and shared my contact.”

Soon afterwards he was sent a script for the audition. His performance had Sarmad cast him as Danish, the character narrating Rahat’s story.

“I did audition for the role, they sent me a script that wasn’t from the movie and I did it. They got in touch a week and a half later and let me know that Sarmad wants to meet me. He told me I was good for the character and narrated the story of his film.”

More About Zindagi Tamasha

After Manto, Sarmad Khoosat’s second directorial Zindagi Tamasha is the talk of the town. The film has been penned by Nirmal Bano and produced by Kanwal Khoosat.

First time actor Ali Kureshi is extremely grateful for bagging this role.

“Working for Sarmad and Khoosat films was a great experience for me, and as you know I’ve been doing modeling for the last four years. Acting and modelling are two very different things and it was the first time I acted in front of a camera [but] they taught me how to act and how to deliver dialogues. I learnt a lot and all I can say is I thank them for showing immense trust in me.”

The film has already been screened and lauded at the Busan festival. Meanwhile Zindagi Tamasha release date has not yet been announced. Looking forward to seeing the film in theaters soon.
