This ‘Village Themed Wedding’ Is Being Criticized Over Animal Cruelty

Lions prowl around villages?

Themed weddings are catching on in the sub-continent. And just like they do in the West, we desis have our fair share of obnoxious and bad themes. If you thought going with a farm theme was bad, one Pakistani couple’s ‘village-themed wedding’ is being slammed for exhibiting animal cruelty.

Here’s what happened at this one particular wedding.

A Village Themed Wedding, They Said

This one wedding in Pakistan decided to do something different. They had farm animals like bulls, goats, horses, pigeons, and ducks just ‘lounging around’ in chains. If that wasn’t enough, they also had exotic animals like parrots, peacocks, pythons, and lions in cages.

So this ‘village’ themed wedding turned out to be much more than everyone thought.

Lets get certain things out of the way here. Did the wedding organizers just assume that villagers are animal haters? Apparently they did in this wedding, as evident by all these animals in chains.

Second villagers are mostly farm produce or herd livestock. Exotic animals do not count as livestock. Nor are they the friendly neighborhood cat just strolling around.

Here are some pictures from the wedding.

Livestock?

Goats?!?

Is that a snake?

Calling Out Animal Cruelty

Now normally when it comes to grandiose weddings, the couple and organizers shut down criticism with;

Humaray paisay, humari marzi (their money, their choice)”

The wedding venue

That probably is understandable. But in this case, things aren’t that simple.

We can see how animal cruelty is involved in this particular wedding. And since this wedding went viral over social media, animal rights activists rallied to stop harming these exotic animals as pets.

Netizens are calling this out too.

Theses exotic animals that are being caged, chained and kept in captivity are protected by certain laws. Usually the law only allows these animals to be kept on a natural reserve (which mimics their natural habitat) or they’re kept in a zoo enclave that meets certain requirements.

For the duration of the wedding and transport to and from the event, these animals probably weren’t even fed.

When it comes to exotic animals it takes years of training to be able to handle these animals.

Many animals die due to mishandling in captivity. They even pass away from malnutrition to inappropriate temperatures and environment.

Parading around animals just for entertainment is why we hate the circus.

Still, it could have been worse:

The most embarrassing themed wedding ever?

We think there is a need to stop outdoing each other when it comes to wedding celebrations. This time it was animals, who knows next time they might capture some ‘khalai makhlooq’ (aliens) to parade around.
