‘Tunak Tunak Tun’ Singer Daler Mehndi Sentenced to Jail In Human Trafficking Case

Famed Punjabi popstar Daler Mehndi landed in legal trouble with a human trafficking case. The ‘Tunak Tunak Tun‘ singer has been sentenced to two years in prison over the case.

Daler Mehndi has been taken into custody after the Patiala court handed him a sentence of two-years imprisonment on Thursday.

The sentence marks the end of judicial proceedings in a 2003 case of human trafficking. Daler Mehndi was accused of taking people abroad by presenting them as troupe members. The case has been dismissed by a district court in Patiala following the sentencing.

He still has the option to appeal to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the current verdict.

The case has been dismissed following the Bolo Ta Ra Ra singer being found guilty. Patiala Additional Sessions judge HS Grewal ordered the immediate arrest of the singer.

The case dates back to 2003. With a total of 31 petitions being filed against Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh.

As per one complainant Bakshish Singh, Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Mehndi took Rs 13 lakh from him to send him to Canada. They later failed to follow through with the illegal immigration ploy.

“Neither did they send me abroad, nor did they return my money. At that time they used to do this work of sending people abroad.”

In a similar case, a district court in Patiala upheld the conviction of Punjabi singer Faler Mehndi in an illegal immigration racket case. The case dates back to 2003. The court pronounced the order after 15 years.
