Riz Ahmed has been on a roll as a star. The actor recently dropped CAA as his agency. However, that agency is making waves as it signed on the Norwegian-Pakistani filmmaker Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen. The Gersh Agency is drastically increasing its international roster and things look promising.
A Potentially Huge Signing For The Agency
According to Deadline:
“Norwegian-Pakistani filmmaker Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen’s latest production Semester is the first Scandinavian drama on Snapchat Shows.”
The Most Unlikeliest Of Platforms
Now that has some merit. Snapchat is not known as a medium for long-form dramatic storytelling. There is not enough time and the snaps disappear after 24 hours. However, in this new age, everything is collated and goes to some server.
The Show Became An Instant Hit!
Deadline also reported that while Semester was launched with its own website, it has logged millions of views on Snapchat’s drama platform. Furthermore, Semester has been viewed in 180 countries worldwide!
The successful Snapchat drama was previously sold to Scandi broadcasters NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark and Sweden’s TV4.

What’s It About?
The synopsis of the story is as follows:
“The underground hit follows a teenager (Herman Tommeraas, star of upcoming Norwegian Netflix original Ragnarok) who returns to Oslo after dropping out of school and skipping town to travel to Paris. According to Rolfsen, who wrote and produced the series with Curry Film partner Alexander Johansson, 60 per cent of the drama’s viewers are under 25 and almost 90 per cent watch the series on mobile.”
Expect Big Things From Rolfsen
Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen is best known for co-directing the four-part BBC One crime-drama In The Dark, which starred MyAnna Buring. Rolfsen also directed the action-drama movie Izzat for which he received five nominations at Norway’s Amanda Awards.
The future looks bright for the Norwegian-Pakistani filmmaker. Let’s hope we get to see him collaborate with Lollywood in the near future.
