Unable to Pay For Her Studies, This Girl Became an Uber Driver to Finance Her Education

Her story has gone viral over social media.

We have all seen numerous examples of how a patriarchal society does not favor women’s education. Rather, they just want girls to become mothers anyway. Most women don’t have a choice but to play along. However, this one teenage girl named Komal is taking charge of her own life. After her father told her he can’t afford her education, this courageous girl decided to continue her studies, while working as a Uber driver.

When a Twitter user shared this teen girl’s inspiring story, the Internet couldn’t have been more proud.

This 19-year-old wasn’t about to stay put. Given that her father was the only breadwinner in the family with limited finances, she decided to do her bit as well. Her next step? To take on a profession that can fund her own studies.

The Uber driver has high hopes for the future. Based on her perseverance and tenacious nature, we have no doubts that she’ll get there. She says:

Abi tu college jana ha or life main bht kuch karna hai [I have yet to go to college, and so much more to do in life].”

At times like this, we’ve got to appreciate platforms like Uber who make the inclusion of women into the workforce less difficult. Unlike a traditional cab driver, at least Uber presents a relatively safer option.

Now people even want to start GoFundMe accounts for Komal.
