Wajih Just Killed Shayan in “Cheekh” And Fans Are Furious [Recap]

Let’s hope Cheekh doesn’t have a Game of Thrones kind of ending!

The week just started and the latest episode of Cheekh is already weighing us down. At this point, the drama serial is just dragging things.

In the most recent episode, we see how Wajih (Bilal Abbas) has gone all out and really taken everything from Mannat (Saba Qamar) and even Shayan (Emaad Irfani). Their suffering seems unnecessary and dragged at this point.

Yes, we get it that Wajih is a psychopath and indifferent to the consequences behind his actions. What we don’t get is why Cheekh still seems confused about Wajih’s character development.

The writers behind the hit drama are still trying to figure out whether Wajih is a psychopath and lacks empathy or remorse, or he’s just another man who made a ‘mistake.

This is all the more surprising if we look at Wajih’s litany of crimes. We’re talking about a guy who tormented his brother by killing his unborn child.

And now with Shayan’s murder, who was one of the show’s pivotal and beloved characters, Cheekh fans are furious. Many of them feel that his death was unnecessary.

Shayan’s Melodramatic Manslaughter

While in any other case we could give the killer the benefit of the doubt, that could only apply if Shayan’s death was the result of manslaughter, not murder. And this is Wajih we’re dealing with here so there’s no doubts about what he willingly did.

Basically, things between Shayan and Wajih come to a head. Shayan Taseer (Emmad Irfani) found out the whole truth of what Wajih (Bilal Abbas Khan) did with his wife Mannat (Saba Qamar).

Shayan confronts Wajih with ‘I’ll kill myself” if you continue to torment my life

Tormented by how his wife is being drugged into a slowly induced madness, Shayan goes about the ‘I’ll kill myself‘ motions in front of his household. As usual, big brother Yawar (Aijaz Aslam) pleads with him not to.

Ab agr meri biwi pe koi anch ayi, agli dafa mein nahi meri lash aye gi is ghar mein

(if my wife is further tormented, next time I won’t come to this house, my dead body will).”

Is ‘Cheekh’ framing Wajih killing Shayan as ‘manslaughter’ and not murder?

Things cool down, but only if for a moment. Wajih then heads on over to Shayan’s house, and they both have a go at it.

After a war of words, Wajih gets angry and pushes Shayan on a glass table. Shayan is wounded, which prompts Wajih to flee the scene.

It is Mannat who rushes Shayan to a hospital where he is pronounced dead on arrival, after succumbing to his injuries.

Cheekh Is Still Confused About Wajih

After leaving his brother near death, Wajih flees the scene of the crime. Rather than go running to big brother Yawar to clean his mess, we see that Wajih feels….. remorseful? Wait what?

‘Cheekh’ shows Wajih, a psychopath, feeling remorse for killing his brother?

Wajih runs home and locks himself up in his room. He only comes out to ‘clear the air’ about Shayan’s death after Yawar is informed about it. That too out of fear that someone else will inform his big brother. Wajih cant have that now can he?

He confesses his crime in front of his brother in a bid to control the narrative and portray it as an accident.

There’s still one person that could play spoiler for Wajih. Haya Taseer (Azekah Daniel), Mannat’s best friend and Shayan’s sister, is the last line of defense.

It should be mentioned that Haya has been hesitant to step up against baby brother Wajih from the beginning. So we’re not sure if she will finally speak out about his psychopathic tendencies, or continue to sit on the sidelines.

Concluding Thoughts

We can’t help but feel that producer Fahad Mustafa and Dr. Ali Kazmi need to really work out a strong ending, rather than melodramatically cutting out characters one by one (Game of Thrones anyone?).

At this point, the most disappointing thing Cheekh could do is give us a typical ending. After everything Wajih has done, we hope the writers don’t turn him into a remorseful soul who gets off easy.
