The Saudi Arabian fan, who went viral for his hilarious dig at Lionel Messi on live TV, is now supporting Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar.
The sly supporter was spotted outside the Lusail Stadium on Tuesday, during Argentina’s World Cup semi final clash with Croatia. The Saudi Arabian fan wore his signature sunglasses plus an Argentina scarf, saying, “Vamos Argentina!”
It feels like a lifetime ago, when Messi and Argentina were destined for a shocking exit from the World Cup. The minnows Saudi Arabia shocked the world by pulling off a historic upset against Argentina, defeating them 2-1 in their opening Group C match last month.
The monumental victory gave one fan, in particular, an opportunity to embarrass the Messi fans with a viral quip. The unnamed Saudi supporter interrupted a reporter during his live TV broadcast to ask him,
Excuse me, where is Messi?
The fan even checked the reporter’s pockets hilariously to find the seven-time Ballon d’Or winning footballer. The clip went viral all over social media as people trolled on the Argentinian legend.
Both international teams would go in opposite directions after the opening match with Argentina bossing their way into the rest of the tournament, defeating Croatia 3-0 in the semi final, while Saudi Arabia couldn’t even qualify for the Round of 16. So, it is easy to see why he switched allegiances.
