About The World’s Worst Nuclear Accident

Established in Ukraine’s city of Pripyat, Chernobyl was an atomic power station during the Soviet Union’s era. In the year 1986, the reactor exploded by accident.

138 workers present on the scene were hospitalized, and 28 of them died immediately while many others developed radioactive cancer.

A massive radioactive fire shot 2km into the earth’s climate and continued emitting contaminated radioactive waves for as many as nine days until it was finally controlled.

Resultantly, the area in the 30km radius was declared hazardous, and nearly 68,000 people had were evacuated.

The site gained more popularity when an HBO series about the disaster was released earlier this year.
