Oppo A52: The mega mid-range phone?

The Good
  • A great battery
  • Good cameras
The Bad
  • Not the fastest processor
  • LCD Screen

Oppo has launched another mid-range device that looks quite stellar on the specs sheet for a price of 34,999 PKR. Oppo boasts a 5000 mAh battery to power a massive 6.5″ Neo-display. That’s not quite all. This smartphone can record 4K videos with it’s AI Quad Camera, which is quite astonishing at this price range. Is this powerful phone as good as Oppo tells us? Let’s find out together.

Design and Display

The phone comes with a design which Oppo has chosen to call the 3-D Quad Curve. Oppo A52’s screen has a massive size of 6.5″ with a 480 pixels per inch and 90.5% screen ratio. The colours feel impressive and Oppo A52’s Neo-display separates the blacks quite well. There is a consistency of colours while viewing videos, and to top it off, Oppo has kept the screen bright(up to 480 nits), so you will have no problem using this device under the sun. The only problem we have over here is the LCD panel, which to be quite frank is old.

The phone is made of plastic with a glossy finish at the back. But this is ok at this price point.

Cameras

Oppo A52 comes with a Quad AI Cam setup which has the capability of recording videos at 4K resolution. The rear cameras have a setup of 12MP + 8MP + 2MP +2MP which allow you to take portrait shots, 119 degrees ultra-wide and wide pictures with true tone HDR. These pictures are quite accurate and crisp which look natural and capture the real-life colours quite well. The AI support allows you to beautify your pictures and it automatically edits the pictures for you. The f/1.8 Aperture combined with the Ultra Night Mode 2.0 from Oppo delivers amazing results at night.

Oppo A52 also has a 16MP front camera that allows recording at 1080P/[email protected] We all know Oppo has long been famous for great selfies, and the A52 does not disappoint at all. It has a portrait mode, and a wide selfie mode as well which you can use to take great selfies which capture the natural light impressively.

We think that Oppo has done a great job with the cameras. At this price point, it is hard to find a device with cameras as good as this.

Processing Power and Storage

The smartphone comes with a Qualcomm processor (Qualcomm SM6125(SDM 665)) that is quite efficient and fast. Although the Oppo A52 does not need it(because of a 5000 mAh battery), the processor combined with Oppo’s software optimizes the battery use to the optimum. This processor is enough for your gaming, video editing and every other need you might have from a phone.

You will have a problem while playing heavy games like PUBG or COD Mobile at the highest graphical settings though. This is because the Snapdragon 665 has a weaker GPU than the 670 it was meant to replace. Oppo A52 has 4GB of RAM which seems sufficient because of great RAM management by Oppo. 128 gigs of storage on the phone will make sure you have enough space to store whatever you want on the phone.

The processor could have been better here, but with all the other good things this phones has to offer we can’t complain much.

Battery

The battery is one of the biggest selling points of this smartphone. We all want a device that lasts us a day or more without the need to charge it multiple times. Oppo A52 answers this plea from the users with a 5000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging. On top of that, Oppo’s software and the Qualcomm Chipset optimize the battery performance further which helps the phone last a long time.

Verdict

The Oppo A52 is quite good considering its price. In only 34,999 PKR, you get a great battery, cameras, a good chipset and not to forget a great screen. Although the other mid-range phones are good too, there are a few points of Oppo A52 that will give the competitors a tough time.
