V20's Eye Tracking Focus Adds Yet Another Twist To The higher midrange handsets

The Good
  • Good Camera Front and Back
  • Big Display
  • Beautiful phone
The Bad
  • Slow Fingerprint Sensor

ProPakistani is back with yet another smartphone that promises to deliver on the value-for-money proposition. Vivo is a company that sort of started the conversation for ‘flagship specifications for a lot less money’ in the olden days, when cellular giants Samsung and Apple were free-stripping the mobile market with little to no competition.

The all new Vivo V20 is the next somewhat bleeding-edge smartphone with a commanding camera spec list and a beautiful theme playing at the back. Announced on 30th September 2020, Vivo V20 packs 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, coupled with a cutting-edge selfie camera and a theme that catches the eye almost instantly.

Design and Display

Similar to previous Vivo flagships in Pakistan, this phone has a flashy back. We received the Sunset Melody variant, and this design might take almost everyone by surprise. There’s a rainbow hue-y thing going on at the back with the camera bump looking like an updated version of a Carl Zeiss module. Working around the sides, the material feels sleek and the phone is interestingly slim.

Starting upfront, the display is a 6.44-inch AMOLED screen with a 1080p resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. The dew-drop camera cutout leaves out an 83.7% screen-to-body ratio.

Internals and Storage

The inside is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset and Adreno 618, and we won’t complain here since most flagships in the price range – although hefty – have normalized with a somewhat inferior SDM chipset. It’s a powerful processor, of course; app usage and mid-level gaming get a lot of performance juice and you won’t find any problems with it.

The phone Vivo sent us packs 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, expandable with a microSDXC slot. You get Vivo’s Funtouch 11 OS fresh out of the box on top of Android 11.

Cameras

Vivo V20 sports a triple-camera setup in the rear. There’s a 64MP main sensor – it’s a big setup with PDAF compatibility on standby. In support, an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP depth sensors sit below the main lens.

The front camera inside the dew-drop cutout is a 44MP with Eye Tracking Focus, or Eye Autofocus. In theory – and as results would show – this capability focuses on a subject’s eyes to make self-portraits more attractive.

Battery, Price and Availability in Pakistan

The 4000mAh battery comes supports 33W fast charging. The fast charger comes in the V20 box, and boasts a 0-100% green knot within 60 minutes.

Vivo V20 retails for PKR 60,000 at online retail vendors. At offline market centers, you can get the device for as low as PKR 54,000. The device is available for purchase all over Pakistan.

Verdict

It’s a good device. battery, camera, performance, display – all things work pretty much like any flagship would. The price feels a bit out of range, much similar to Oppo‘s Reno 4 Pro (PKR 84,999). If you’re in the game for some camera upgrades, then this phone is just for you.
